Hadley Toweel is the Creative Director of Zebra Media & Design and the owner of Zebra Image portrait studio and Zebra Photo Art gallery situated on the Redcliffe Peninsula Waterfront in Moreton Bay, near Brisbane.
Hadley is an international award-winning photographer who has won Gold, Silver and Silver Distinction in the Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPA). He has also won photographic awards in the USA, UK and RSA, including the Silver Merit Award for Fashion Photography from the World Institute of Photographic Masters (WIPM). He is an Associate and Full Accredited member of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, a Licentiate and former Committee Member of the Professional Photographers of Southern Africa and was a Charter Member of Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (USA).
Hadley is also an Independent Journalist with a Master’s Degree in Journalism obtained (with distinction) from the University of Wollongong. He is currently enrolled in his PhD in Journalism and is a member of the Australian Journalists Association. For many years Hadley was a regular Feature Writer for Africa's largest imaging magazine, Camera & Image.
At least ten newspapers in Australia, including the Sunday Mail, Northern Times and Redcliffe Herald have published hundreds of Hadley’s articles and photographs. Hadley was also nominated for a Quest Editorial Excellence Award.
Hadley’s freelance photographic career has spanned 20 years. Prior to migrating to Australia in 2001, he was the official photographer at many major South African events including the opening of the first Hugo Boss store in Africa; the launch of Virgin Cola; the opening of Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club as well as the Emerald Casino Resort; the Versace Fashion Show; the Mercedes Benz Horse Jumping Championships; the Austrian Imperial Ball; Dunhill Derby; the Dunhill Symphony of Fire; the International New Model Today competition and the Samsudin Charity Ball at Gallagher Estate. He also photographed the opening of the Stars Studio nightclub at the Sheraton Hotel as well as the Faces Bar at the Hilton Hotel.
Hadley was the chief celebrity photographer for Style magazine in South Africa for five years. He has photographed many celebrities, including President Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Clinton, President Nelson Mandela, HRH Prince Edward, Sir Richard Branson, Lord Jeffrey Archer, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Miss Universe Michelle McLean. He has also photographed Hollywood stars John Savage and Jack Scalia as well as Casper van Dien, Bentley Mitchum (son of Robert) and Jenny McShane.
He was the official wedding photographer when Mining Magnate Bridgette Radebe (néé Motsepe) married ANC stalwart Jeff Radebe. More recently, in Australia, Hadley was one of two Official Wedding Photographers for the wedding of Brisbane Lions Captain Jonathan Brown and his celebrity wife, Kylie Adams. He also photographed the First Lady of Australia, Thérése Rein, for the cover of View magazine.
Hadley’s photographs, including one of President Nelson Mandela, have been published in the New York Times. They have also appeared on the covers of Shell World (UK), Dialogue (USA) and Today magazine (RSA). The cover of The Star Society pages also regularly featured his photographs.
Hadley has shot promotional images for a number of musicians, including the internationally acclaimed Johnny Clegg (Savuka/Juluka), Jake Lloyd-Jones, Sang Froyd, Evan Schoombie as well as all the images for the music CD Dentro Me, by Italian Gospel singer Sara.
Over the years, Hadley’s regular corporate clients have included Andersen Consulting, Deloitte & Touché, Deutsche Bank, Land Rover, Werksman's Attorneys, Midrand University, Milpark Business School, Crawford College, Tarsus Technologies, Scottish Trade International, Vodaworld, as well as the American, British, French, Lebanese and Yemen Embassies. He has also done work for the Premiers Office, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Baulderstone, RaggAhmed, Oxford Crest and Online Encounters in Queensland.
Hadley is a member of the Queensland Justices Association and volunteers as a qualified Justice of the Peace at the Redcliffe Magistrates Court. He is married with five children and three grandchildren. |
